In Honor of Marley
Our animals are such important parts of our lives. I recently lost my dog Marley. He was a sweet little shi-poo that joined our family when he was 3 months old and passed away at the age of 17. He was such a joy to me and my family. He was full of love and fun! I am so blessed to have had him in my life. He taught me many lessons about unconditional love. His love for me and my family was always unconditional. No matter what was going on in our home his love was constant, even to the end.
About 4 weeks after our move to Arizona we came home one day to find Marley lying on the floor. He could not stand or walk but was in no pain. I put him on my lap and began to give him Reiki and became quiet within my mind so I could try to communicate with him and his body. He was relaxed and rested quietly as I stroked him and “tuned in”. After about 10 minutes he told me telepathically, “Mom, I wanted to be a part of this big adventure of us all moving to the mountains. It was great, but now you are settled, and it is time for me to go”. As I continued to give him Reiki, I told my husband what I felt and heard as Marley continued to rest comfortably now beside me. Since this was a Friday evening, we looked for a vet clinic where we could take him. Luckily, we found a 24-hour emergency care clinic 50 minutes from our home. As we drove, I continued to send reiki and ask for guidance. By the time we arrived I felt at peace with the decision that Marley wanted us to make for him.
When we arrived at the clinic it was so peaceful and quiet. The staff met us as soon as we walked in and were very supportive and comforting. They confirmed that yes, Marley’s body was now shutting down in preparation for moving to the other side. The clinic had a special room for such situations that provided a quiet, peaceful environment to be with him until we were ready to have the vet come in and help him transition. As we sat in the room, I filled it with Reiki and asked the Angels to be with us and help us to let him go and to help him to move to the other side. Even as he was given the shot to put him to sleep before the final injection, he looked at me with so much love and gratitude for our time together. He said to me, “Mom please don’t be sad, I will always be with you and will see you when you too get to the other side.” As the vet entered the room and began the procedure It was a very peaceful and honoring experience to hold him in my arms and look into his eyes until the end. I felt honored to be at his side.
After the passing of Marley, I had several days of deep mourning but also of deep gratitude that he had stayed with us for 17 wonderful years. I was so glad he never suffered and that when it was time to go that it all happened quickly and in such an honoring way. I was also so glad I had Reiki to help me, even in sending us to the most wonderful clinic where he was honored in such a loving and compassionate way.
About a week later we received Marley’s ashes. Several days after that we received a beautiful handwritten card in the mail from all the staff that were their helping us that night for Marley’s transition. This brought us so much peace. For now, Marley’s ashes are with us until it feels like the time to spread them into the mountains that he loved after our move.
In my experience over the years Reiki offers a profound and loving way to help guide us through the emotional journey of letting an animal companion transition to the other side from a place of love, compassion and acceptance. It helps us to move through the loss with grace.
Here are some ideas to consider as a Reiki Practitioner during the loss of a pet.
* Creating a Sacred Space for Peace: Reiki helps create a calm, sacred space where both you and your animal companion can feel at peace. This environment fosters unconditional love, allowing both of you to connect deeply during their transition. You may channel Reiki energy with the intention of surrounding you and your pet with a sense of safety, comfort, and love as you help them to prepare for their journey.
*Facilitating Emotional Release: The grief and sadness that come with letting go of a beloved animal companion can be overwhelming. Reiki helps ease emotional pain by gently guiding you to release feelings of sorrow, guilt, or helplessness. It supports your heart in finding peace through loving acceptance of the natural cycle of life and death.
*Strengthening the Soul Connection: Reiki will enhance the soul connection between you and your animal companion. Even though they are leaving their physical form, the energetic bond remains. Reiki can help you honor that connection, allowing you to feel your pet’s love and presence beyond the physical, reinforcing that love never truly ends.
*Guiding You and your Animal Companion Through Compassionate Transition: As you share Reiki with your animal, you offer them compassion and healing energy. This can assist them in feeling less fear or discomfort as they transition. You can place your hands gently on or near their body, setting an intention for a peaceful crossing. Reiki will help you intuitively feel when they are ready, offering clarity in difficult decisions like euthanasia.
*Receiving Healing for Yourself: After your companion has crossed, Reiki continues to offer healing for your grief. It helps soothe the pain of loss, guiding you to embrace the memories and love shared. It reminds you that, although your animal companion is gone in the physical sense, their energy and love remain with you.
Reiki, when practiced during this tender time, serves as a loving guide through the profound and sacred process of letting go, supporting both you and your beloved companion with grace and love.
I am so grateful for Reiki!
Thank You Marley for always being such a beautiful, loving light for me and my family.
We honor you always…
